The molecular processes that take place within a cell infected by a virus or within pathogenic bacteria and unicellular eukaryotes determine how microbes propagate, and spread within an infected host. MVM faculty and their laboratories focus on a number of molecular and cellular processes important in the life cycles of microbes, including:
- Interactions between microbes and their host
- Replication and expression of microbial genomes
- Virus structure and assembly
- Cellular responses to microbial infection
