Molecular and Cellular Biology of Microbes

The molecular processes that take place within a cell infected by a virus or within pathogenic bacteria and unicellular eukaryotes determine how microbes propagate, and spread within an infected host.  MVM faculty and their laboratories focus on a number of molecular and cellular processes important in the life cycles of microbes, including:

  • Interactions between microbes and their host
  • Replication and expression of microbial genomes
  • Virus structure and assembly
  • Cellular responses to microbial infection
