Advanced Topics: Imaging Host-Pathogen Interactions

This course will provide an introduction to fluorescence microscopy with an emphasis on the study of host-pathogen interactions.  Experts in the fields of bacterial pathogenesis, viral entry, viral protein signaling, fungal pathogenesis, polymicrobial infections will present lectures on the use of imaging in their fields of research, give demonstrations of various imaging techniques and lead a journal club discussion of relevant papers from the literature.  The goal is to provide students with a basic understanding of fluorescence microscopy for the purpose of properly designing their own experiments and effectively evaluating the work of others. Alternate summer semesters.
